Roadbooks

There is selection of the roadbooks you can choose from. All the roadbooks start and end on egsaclty the same place.

Warming up and Testing – 54km

A short loop near Knin designed to bring machines and riders into the environment before longer distances begin.

It combines open gravel, smaller rocky climbs, occasional water crossings and navigation decisions close enough together to expose mistakes quickly. Equipment, tyres and roadbook setup reveal their strengths or weaknesses here.

Conditions change the character completely — dry dust, wet clay, heat or cold can all appear depending on timing.

Compact but complete.
A small stage that often decides how the rest of the rally will feel.

Mystical Mountain – 300 km

The stage leaves Knin along karst rivers and open valleys, moving almost to the coast before turning sharply upward. The climb onto Velebit is sudden – vegetation fades, rock takes over and exposure becomes constant.

Velebit forms a natural barrier between the interior and the sea. The Bura wind accelerates over its ridges, shaping both landscape and riding conditions. Across the slopes lie scattered pastirski stanovi (shepherd huts), seasonal stone shelters placed where grass and water briefly exist.

Most of the day runs high above the surroundings: long traverses, broken limestone and occasional flowing sections across the plateau. Navigation depends on terrain awareness rather than visible tracks.

The descent returns to Knin and familiar ground, but the mountain usually sets the memory of the day.

Croatian Silk Road – 200 km

The loop leaves Knin and immediately moves onto the open backs of Svilaja (translated from Croatian: “Silk Mountain”), where the landscape widens and the horizon begins to dominate orientation. From here the line continues toward Sinj and then rises again onto the long stony ridges of Dinara.

For centuries this was a direction of movement between the Adriatic coast and the interior – one of the regional branches of the Silk Road. Goods that arrived to coastal towns continued inland along these natural corridors: salt, cloth, tools and livestock all travelled through the same passes that now form the route.

The mountains here are almost bare. Wind, distance and rock shape the terrain more than vegetation. Along the slopes stand scattered remains of seasonal shepherd settlements, positioned where water, grass and shelter briefly meet.

The riding constantly alternates between flowing plateau tracks and slower technical climbs over broken limestone. There is little shade, little protection and long visibility in every direction. Navigation sometimes depends on understanding the terrain but it is more ofter reading the roadbook and following a clear path.

This stage is rarely aggressive but never easy.
Exposure, weather and distance define it far more than speed.

Edge of the Roman Empire – 450 km

The route moves away from the inhabited valleys and climbs into a chain of high, severe mountains where movement has always been limited to a few natural corridors. Many of them were first organised into proper roads during the Roman period, when this region formed part of the outer edge of the empire.

Stone embankments, straight cuts across slopes and improbable traverses still appear in places. They rarely look monumental, but they reveal intention. Someone planned passage through terrain that normally refuses it.

Long before and long after Rome, these mountains were a boundary. Control here was never absolute. Illyrian tribes resisted Roman expansion in prolonged campaigns, and centuries later the same ground marked shifting military frontiers again and again. The landscape kept its character: difficult to enter, harder to hold.

The stage crosses exposed ridges, deep valleys and remote plateaus where settlements remain rare. Distances are long and navigation follows logic rather than visible tracks.

Riding alternates between faster connecting sections and slow rocky traverses where progress depends on line choice and patience.
More a journey through space than a test of speed.

Badlands and Bushes – 180 km

Leaving Knin the terrain quickly becomes dry and fractured. Low vegetation spreads between limestone shelves and shallow channels carved by seasonal water. The route repeatedly approaches clear karst rivers — sudden lines of green and cold water inside otherwise harsh ground.

Depending on the season the same section can be flowing or technical. Solid rock turns into loose fragments, and narrow passages require precise positioning rather than power.

In warmer months insects and spiders reclaim the tracks, stretching wide webs across rarely used passages. In colder periods the landscape becomes almost silent and empty. The impression often resembles abandoned terrain rather than wilderness.

Midway the route reaches a wide river bank where movement stops naturally — a place used for rest long before organised routes existed.

Shorter than the mountain stages but mentally demanding.
Constant attention replaces distance.

Woods and Wetlands – 450 km

The stage enters dense forest where visibility shortens and sound changes. Ground becomes soft, sometimes saturated, and water appears without warning — streams, mud flats and long damp meadows between trees.

Here navigation matters more than terrain reading. Tracks split, disappear and reconnect. The correct direction is often not the obvious one.

Villages are scattered and quiet, separated by wide forest belts and open wet fields. Human presence feels temporary while nature feels permanent.

Speed varies constantly: smooth forest roads allow rhythm, but wet sections slow movement abruptly. Mist and temperature shifts are common and change perception of distance.

This is a stage of concentration rather than aggression.
The terrain does not block passage, it confuses it.

Note: The app functions almost flawlessly. If something seems off, it’s likely an error on your end. Test thoroughly and familiarize yourself with the app before racing.

Important

PRECISSION of You results are 100% depending to how you handle the Terra Pirata App!

Before you get to the Stage Start, you have to learn how to use Terra Pirata properly. The most important is:

  1. Read documentation and FAQ at https://terrapirata.com/rally-roadbooks/
  2. Start the stage ONLY if you are certain your Terra Pirata app is on and working good.
  3. The roadbooks are set to “Sequential validation”, where the waypoints must be validated in the order they appear in the roadbook. If you miss or skipp your “target” waypoint (one you are heading to), and you want to continue to the next one (or other one), you have to change the target waypoint in the app. To change the target waypoint, press long the waypoint number (upper, left). Pop up will show and there you can choose different target point. Before you start the Stage, learn how to change the target waypoint on the App.
  4. If you decide to abandon the Stage, make sure to also “abandon” the Stage in the app.
  5. When you finish the Stage (or abandon it) make sure to upload the roadbook. Lear how before you start the Stage
